I taught a student from Thailand today, she was 21 but seemed way way younger, she didn't know any English or any Japanese and I had the best fun in ages teaching her red blue green yellow purple bird cat dog eggs fan and apple... (don't ask - they were the only cards I could find of stuff beginning with A-F) she was ace.

On a less good note, I did something stupid and hurt someone I care about, I won't go into details but he knows who he is and perhaps if I put it on here, he will understand that I really am truly sorry and I hope he will forgive me....

Revenge....

...may be a dish served cold .... and I am sure it was very mean and unfair of me but I got my own back on Jordan today. As usual, he was spouting an utter load of rubbish and being generally annoying and making Eleanor grind her teeth and then he asked who was in VOICE and so I told him and then said "Oh and Sachiko came in toward the end, which was nice." because Sachiko *is* very nice... always contributes and will talk to anyone which a lot of students won't. Jordan says "Oh yeah I love Sachiko - she's like RIDICULOUSLY intelligent!!"
Sachiko, is talkative, well-informed, reasonably eloquent in her non-native language of choice and extremely nice. However, having met several people who really ARE too clever for their own good, I would not even when being ultra nice put her in that category. Eleanor nearly spat out her tea and I found myself saying "Just because someone is more intelligent than you, doesn't mean they are RIDICULOUSLY intelligent...!" I felt a bit bad about it, but I think it was probably my greatest come-back ever...
I'll probably have to delete this in about 10 minutes in order to avoid looking like the biggest bitch ever...

It's not fair

I don't want to move schools, I now have to give up my Saturday Sunday weekend and have Mondays off instead AND I have to go to one school 3 days a week and another twice AND I have to teach kids.... HOME is looking like a REALLY tempting option... if only I had a job to go to...

I simply DON'T believe it

So I got home after a day of OT at about 10.15 to see a cicada lying upside down RIGHT OUTSIDE my DOOR. It seemed as though it was slightly more toward me than central so I figured if I went down the stairs behind it and came on from the other direction, I might be able to pull the door open and rush inside without it screeeeeeping at me. So I took the lift to the fourth floor and edged around the couple that were lounging in the drain belted it along to the steps only to discover the alcove absolutely CRAWLING with them... sweating already ...decided to go down to the second floor, came up the stairs only to realise that the deviant little blot was in fact, completely central and I could not get into my flat. It might be dead, it might not, we all know what they are like... the old lady next door whose door I was outside whimpering had the lights off so I didn't see any help forthcoming from her and we all know the other neighbours are about as much use as a wet weekend in Paris. I was wetting myself. Had no idea what to do... I couldn't stay out all night that was sure... in the end I noticed that the old lady next door had an umbrella... you can guess the rest, I nearly had heart failure when the thing did a mini-screeeep but at least I managed to flick it far enough to get in the house.... don't know how I'm going to get out tomorrow though, I couldn't flick it that far...

My new colleague....

...is the reason people don't like Americans awfully much... he is a short rotund black guy with a lisp and a very effeminate bearing. This in itself is not a problem, however, yesterday every sentence he uttered began with "Well, at my old school..." in that irritating questioning intonation.

Today he began his shift my asking us in the staff room "SO y'all didn't know that dead girl, did you...? I mean I wanted to ask yesterday..."
